How much do we charge?

Rates vary depending upon the group and the event. We do not charge by the "hour" per say in regard to weddings. When it comes to weddings, we have found that an hour and thirty minutes is about the average length of most ceremonies. Some are longer if there is a religious service involved, however, the client does not pay extra, nor will the musicians leave before the ceremony has ended. If the event gets started late, we will stay through the ceremony with no extra charge. Consequently, we are careful not to book events too close together. Please call 970.493.6714 or fill out an online request for a password for the registered users section of our website. There you will find a complete price list.

What are some of the more popular locations where we perform weddings and receptions?

We have performed at many of the popular venues in Northern Colorado to include: Tapestry House, The Stanley Hotel, Lincoln Center, Union Colony Civic Center, The Fountains, The Cottonwood Club, The Drake Center, Avery House, CSU Oval, Fort Collins and Greeley Country Clubs, Centennial Village, Della Terra Chateau, Pelican Lakes, The Flowers House, Aspen Lodge, Hotel Boulderado, The Marriot Hotel, The Hilton Hotel, The McCreery House, and many more.

Religious wedding ceremonies that we have played for include, but are not limited to: Baptist, Catholic, Congregational, Episcopal, Evangelical, First Christian, Jewish, Lutheran, Presbyterian, and Unitarian.

What kind of music selection do we offer?

For weddings particularly, we specialize in "popular classics" and celebrated works such as:

  • Pachelbel’s Canon in D
  • Bach’s Brandenburg Concerti
  • The traditional Wedding March and Bridal Chorus
  • The Four Seasons by Vivaldi
  • Hymn to Joy
  • Trumpet Voluntary and Trumpet Tune
  • The Lord’s Prayer
  • Ave Maria
  • Jesu Joy of Man’s
  • and selections from the Water Music Suite and The Royal Fireworks by Handel.

Are there demo selections available?

Yes. You can access the full demo cd from within the Musical Groups section of this website.   If you are unable to hear the music from this site, please call 970.493.6714 to request a demo cd to be sent to you. Keep in mind that all samples are short excerpts rather than the entire piece of music from which they are played. Our repertoire is also much larger than what is provided on the website.

If you have a selection in mind that is not represented, it is very possible that we have it in our standard repertoire.

How do we book our events?

Events are reserved on a first call, first serve basis. If you decide to contract our services, you will be sent a written contract specifying the musical group involved, the date, time and location of the event. There are two copies: one to sign and to return to Lorán Strings, and one copy to keep for your records. A 50% deposit is required to lock in a booking. Deposits are fully refundable up to 90 days before the event. Payment in full is expected the week prior to the event.

How is music chosen for the event?

If you have booked Loran Strings to provide music for your wedding ceremony, you will be sent a Music Selection Worksheet along with your contract.  This worksheet helps to prepare you for a consultation meeting we will have with you either in person or over the phone about 30 days prior to your wedding.

Do the musicians attend the wedding rehearsal?

No. After a consultation, where music is chosen, we will send you a neatly printed "cue" sheet which clearly shows what music has been chosen, and where the music is to be played in the ceremony. You will have a copy to take to your rehearsal and to use as a guide.

If you have a wedding coordinator, they will most likely need this information to direct the wedding party through the rehearsal. We will also have a copy of the cue sheet from which we can make changes at your discretion and as needed. You should feel free to call us anytime before the wedding with last minute changes.

Can we accompany a singer or book other musicians?

We can accompany a singer providing they are fairly professional and experienced. We need to have the score of their music selection to determine if we can play it. If we need to re-write the score, there is a transcription fee of $30 an hour.

We ask that all other musicians be of a fine enough caliber that a short 10 to 15 minute rehearsal before the wedding ceremony is all that is needed. We do not determine the fees or handle the payment of other musicians since we are not an agency. We will, however, work directly with them to organize, plan and coordinate all the music-related details of your wedding.

What are more questions you might consider asking your musicians?

1. What attire are they planning on wearing for the wedding?

Most musicians should have a standard black "concert attire" for both cool and warm temperatures.  If you prefer that they do not wear black, you probably should specify the type of attire, e.g. nice dresses, pant suits, shirt and tie, etc.

2. If they are charging mileage, is it for one car only, or for several?

Generally, it is fair to charge for only one vehicle.

3. What happens if a musician gets ill or hurt, and can not attend the event?

There should be something in the contract that the group will provide qualified subs.

4. Will they charge extra if the playing time goes over just a few minutes?

Some groups book by the hour for weddings.  An hour may be enough time for some weddings, however, if your ceremony goes over that time frame, you may get charged for an entire extra hour.

5. Have they actually played together in the group, or are they a "pick-up" group or student group?

Although a business may advertise with a photo their string quartet, these may not be the musicians you get.  Many groups are actually "agency" groups, and they hire whoever may be available and often will hire students if there regular professional players are already booked.
