How much do we charge?
Rates vary depending upon the group size and the event. We do not charge by the "hour" per say in regard to weddings. When it comes to weddings, we have found that an hour and thirty minutes is about the average length of most ceremonies. Some are longer if there is a religious service involved, however, the client does not pay extra, nor will the musicians leave before the ceremony has ended. If the event gets started late, we will stay through the ceremony with no extra charge. Consequently, we are careful not to book events too close together. Please call 970.493.6714 and request a password for the Registerd Users section of www.loranstrings.com/registered.php. There you will find a complete price list.

We provide plenty of time for the "unexpected". Even the most well choreographed weddings can have glitches. We will be there on time and ready to play prelude music for your guests. A little extra pre-wedding music never seems to bother the guests. A late start may mean a late end, but we will stay to finish it out. However, if the event has not started within the contracted time frame, and the client requests that the musicians stay for an extended period of time, charges will be billed to the client providing musicians are indeed able to remain at the event.

Reception rates are charged by the hour and vary depending on the group that you hire. Please call 970.493.6714 and request a password for the Registerd Users section of www.loranstrings.com/registered.php. There you will find a complete price list.

There is a mileage charge outside the Fort Collins area. Currently, we charge 40 cents per mile round trip.

Are there demo selections available?
Yes. You can access the full demo cd from the Registered Users section of this site. Please call 970.493.6714 and request a password for the Registerd Users section of www.loranstrings.com/registered.php. If you are unable to hear the music from this site, please call to request a demo cd to be sent to you. Keep in mind that all samples are short excerpts rather than the entire piece of music from which they are played. Our repertoire is also much larger than what is provided on the website.

If you have a selection in mind that is not represented, it is very possible that we have it in our standard repertoire.

How do we book our events?
Events are reserved on a first call, first serve basis. If you decide to contract our services, you will be sent a written contract specifying the musical group involved, the date, time and location of the event. There are two copies: one to sign and to return to Lorán Strings, and one copy to keep for your records. A 50% deposit is required to lock in a booking. Deposits are fully refundable up to 90 days before the event. Payment in full is expected the week prior to the event.

How is music chosen for the event?
If your event is a reception, dinner, or general gathering, the musicians will choose a variety of selections from the standard repertoire. However, your requests (in advance) are certainly welcome. If there are specific selections or composers that you do not wish to have played, you will need to inform us of those selections prior to your event.

For weddings, an individual consultation will need to be arranged. During this meeting, the bride and groom, with our help, can select music for their wedding. A Wedding Music Worksheet is sent to the bride prior to this meeting. Generally, we like to meet with the bride and/or groom in person about 30 days before the wedding. In the event that we cannot meet in person, a phone consultation can certainly be arranged.

Do the musicians attend the wedding rehearsal?
No. After a consultation, where music is chosen, we will send you a neatly printed "cue" sheet which clearly shows what music has been chosen, and where the music is to be played in the ceremony. You will have a copy to take to your rehearsal and to use as a guide. If you have a wedding coordinator, they will most likely need this information to direct the wedding party through the rehearsal. We will also have a copy of the cue sheet from which we can make changes at your discretion and as needed. You should feel free to call us anytime before the wedding with last minute changes.

Can we accompany a singer or book other musicians?
We can accompany a singer providing they are fairly professional and experienced. We need to have the score of their music selection to determine if we can play it. If we need to re-write the score, there is a transcription fee of $30 an hour. We ask that all other musicians be of a fine enough caliber that a short 10 to 15 minute rehearsal before the wedding ceremony is all that is needed. We do not determine the fees or handle the payment of other musicians since we are not an agency. We will, however, work directly with them to organize, plan and coordinate all the music-related details of your wedding.

What are some more questions you should ask yourself about a musical group?

How many years has the group been performing together? Many groups are "pick up" groups, that is, they do not play together on a regular basis. They pull together whoever may be available. This does not make for a tight ensemble.

Does the group appear professional? Even if you are having a "simple" wedding, you would not want your musicians to behave in a "casual" manner.

Can you trust that the group will dress appropriately? It should not be too much to ask your musicians to dress formally.

Is there a group manager? Like any business, there should be one person who manages and coordinates the music details to include contracting, consultations, and coordination. You should know who to call for questions, concerns or advice.

Is the manager friendly and helpful?  There is no excuse for arrogance from your musicians. They should be willing to help with any of your musical or ceremonial questions without being condescending.  If the group is truly experienced, they have attended many weddings and receptions.  If asked, they should be able to provide suggestions and advice regarding your special event.
